Four outstanding young women were crowned to serve as queen and princesses for the 2010 Napa Valley Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Norma Magdaleno, a senior from Napa High School, was selected as queen. She came to the Napa Valley five short years ago and has transitioned from a newcomer with few English skills into 4.0 GPA student with plans to become a registered nurse. She is a member of the MECHA Club, the Interact Club, she is a mentor for Boys and Girls Club, and she has been recognized and honored for her many community service activities
including being named Vintners Student of the Month this past December.
Arely Guzman is a Cinco de Mayo princess. She is a senior at St. Helena High School where she is enrolled in college prep courses and is maintaining a GPA ranging from 3.4 to 3.7. Arely wants to be a designer and her goal is to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandizing when she graduates.
Grisel Gomez is a Cinco de Mayo princess from Calistoga High School where she is in her senior year. Grisel has maintained a 3.1 GPA while facing numerous surgeries and challenges in her life. She has also been very active in community service opportunities including, Big Brother, Big Sisters, baby-sitting children for PTA meetings, Mexican
Independence Day, Calistoga Car Show, Calistoga Haunted House, Napa Valley Marathon, Soroptimist Crab Feed, and the community Thanksgiving Dinner. Grisel wants to be either a midwife nurse or a pediatrician.
Taide Guerra-Martinez is the Cinco de May princess from Vintage High School. Taide and her mother and brother came to the US in 1999. She is a senior and has maintained a GPA ranging from 4.17 to 4.60 in her four years at Vintage. She is in the top 3% of her class and will graduate with honors. Taide finds time to volunteer mentoring
preschool children, tutoring freshmen and volunteering at Queen of the Valley Hospital.
She plans to be a doctor.
